Baptism

On June 12th, 2011 you were baptized by Father Ed at St. Martin's Church. Along with the congregation your family came out to celebrate with you. Mommy and Daddy was there along with your godmother Jamie Riegel and fiance Tyler and his son Lain, godfather stand in TJ Hartman- your godfather is Josh Suthoff but he was over seas serving our country therefore your gracious Uncle TJ stood in for him (also Aunt Jaimee and Owen couldn't make it since they were living in North Caroline) and Aunt Lacey, Grandma Irma, Grandma Kara, Grandpa John, Aunt Tammy, Uncle Travis, Taylor, Paige, Uncle William, Ma(Goldie) and Pa (Rick), and Grandma Distler. Grandpa Jim and Great-Grandma Morris joined us at the house after the service. We had lunch after the service with all your family. We really enjoyed our time together and being able to share your special day with you.
Aunt Lacey and Mommy made your baptismal cupcakes.

Aunt Jamie held the bowl of holy water under your head.

Father Ed blessing you.

Since you received your first sacrament in the church and the children in front of us were receiving first communion we were asked to bring forward the Eucharist and offering.

Your wonderful family showered you with gifts.

8 Weeks of Life

The first weeks have been very busy getting to know each other. I am starting to learn the differences in your cries and you're starting to sleep better. We had a few nights of you sleeping till 6am. But that was short lived, you have been sleeping till about 4ish and I have to go put your Binky back in till about 5ish.

We figured out by week 3 of your life that you had reflux (GERD). You had raspy breathing when you ate, you'd arch you back while eating, and you would cry after eating. We've tried 3 different medicines and we are thinking the 3rd one is working for you. We also discovered (with the help of Aunt Lacey and Goldie) that putting you to bed at night on your tummy really helps you. After putting you to bed on your tummy is when you started sleeping better. You have been a lot happier since giving you medicine.

Since the weather has warmed up you have been spending a lot more time outside. We've found out that when you're upset if we put you in your stroller and go cruising you calm down. We also discovered that you love your security blanket (that I named Betsy). She helps hold your Binky in and seems to help you fall asleep.

On Saturday June 11, 2011 you rolled over from your tummy to your back. Aunt Lacey and me caught you the first time. You got to your side and then it took you a while to get that leg all the way over. Once you figured it you were on your back. I tried getting you to do it again but you weren't too happy with me moving you. So we let you alone. Once your daddy and Uncle TJ got back to the house Daddy put you on your tummy and you slowly rolled onto your back again. We were very excited and bragged about it to the family on Sunday at your baptism.

You have made great progress in the first 8 weeks of your life. We are looking forward to what is to come!!

Pa's first time (probably going to be the only time) changing your diaper.

Just chilling in my bouncer. It vibrates too and you love it.

You love your hands by your head. Daddy caught this picture one morning when he was going to get you up.

Not quite ready for the bumbo chair.

First time out in the Pooh stroller.

Wearing my camo! Thanks to Grandma Irma. Daddy loves your outfit. He has been asking me weakly since we brought you home if you were big enough yet to wear it.

Happy Memorial Day! 5 weeks and 6 days old and fitting a lot better in the Bumbo seat.

We went to the pool with Aunt Jamie. You set in your stroller and slept until right before we left. I held onto you and dipped your feet into the water. You fussed for a very short bit and then went right back to snoozing.

6/11/11 Loving Aunt Lacey! This is also the day that you rolled from your tummy to your back.

Security blanket, Betsy. Betsy really helps sooth you. Right now when only use it when you're in your seats.

The first two weeks of your life.

Daddy gave you your first bath. You were not very happy.

Aunt Tammy gave you this outfit. You liked to suck on your fingers and notice how it's your left thumb, like your mom.

Your Easter dress given to you by Goldie. You got to support Mommy and Daddy on 4/23 when they got confirmed in the catholic church. You did great in church as you were passed from one relative to the next.

On Easter, 4/24, you met your Great Grandpa for the first time. He sure does love you. He has been calling nearly every couple days to see how you and me are doing.

You met Great Grandma for the first time Easter. Both Great Grandma and Great Grandpa couldn't get over how cute you are. It was your first Easter and Grandma Kara gave you a bib, book, and bunny for your first Easter.

1 week old, look how big you're getting.

1 week after being born you met your cousin Owen and Aunt Jaimee. Owen couldn't stop kissing you. On your birthday when Daddy and me talked to Owen to tell him that you were born he told us then that he was calling you Sophie.

Our first time outside. Goldie gave you these glasses for Easter in your Easter basket. You didn't like the glasses very much. You left them alone once you feel asleep.

Tummy time with Daddy.

Sleeping like your Great Grandpa with your mouth open.
You like to sleep with your arms around your head. Too cute!

2 weeks old. You weighed 7lbs. 3oz. at your doctors appointment yesterday. Look how big you've gotten! You're starting to keep those beautiful eyes open a little more through out the day.

Your Birthday

Mommy and Daddy went to the hospital at 6am on April 19th, 2011. They got me ready for the c-section to happen at 8am. I final got taken to the operating room around 8am and you were born at 8:31am. When you were born they said your feet were up by your head and by the way that you like to suck you've probably been enjoying your toes for the last few months. Daddy first heard that you were a girl when they were pulling you out and my doctor said 'oh she's pooping.' I heard what you were after that first cry and they said we have a beautiful girl. I couldn't help but cry when I heard you for the first time and getting to see your precious little self laying in the bed across the room from me. Daddy got to hold you first but he brought you to me so that I could see you and kiss you. I got to hold you for a short little bit on my chest. Then Daddy got to go to the nursery with you and see you get measured and your first bath. You measured 7lbs. and 1 oz. and 19.5 inches long. You were such a perfect little size. By the time you got done getting cleaned up and I was done being sewed up we met in the recovery room. Daddy and the nurse came in saying that you were ready to nurse because you had already been sucking your thumb in the nursery. Sure enough you were ready. After Daddy and the nurse got me positioned right (because I still couldn't feel below my chest) the nurse gave you to me and you latched right on. We have been so blessed with you taking right to nursing. Nursing is such a special moment with you and Daddy has been an amazing help in nursing you. Also on your birthday Daddy got experience his first poopy diaper change all on his own. The first two times that day a nurse always happened to pop in when you diaper was poopy but that last poopy diaper for that day he didn't get so lucky. It was quite a learning experience for Daddy and very funny. After about 5-10 minute diaper change Daddy was finally able to get a clean diaper onto you. We love you so much and can't wait to take you home so that Daddy can spend more time with you and you can enjoy your cute little room.

Preparing Mommy for the c section.

P.S. 4/18/11

Mommy went turkey hunting the day before you were born. I was 39 weeks pregnant with you and still feeling good. I shot at a bird, it rolled back, and then got up and flew away. Mommy and Daddy walked through the woods to the right of Great Grandpa's lake and never found the turkey. Mommy's hoping for her first mother's day she will be able to redeem herself and get a bird.
